Great Scenes – LW&C: SWORD OF VENGEANCE
There are target=”_blank”>many amazing scenes I could pull from the Lone Wolf & Cub series, the classic samurai hexalogy which features some of the most awe-inspiring and blood-drenched action sequences ever put to film, not to mention some of the most unforgettable close-ups. Starring Tomisaburo Wakayama as Ogami Ittō, the official Shogunate executioner who is framed by the Yagyu clan and forced to flee with his infant son in a bad-ass baby-cart you won’t find at Babies-R-Us, it’s a series filled with sword-fights, decapitations, bare-breasted ninjas and sweet tricked out baby-cart action. But it’s this quiet scene, in which baby Daigoro (Akihiro Tomikawa) is forced to choose between the sword and the ball to decide his fate, that comprises the heart and soul of the classic series – adapted by Kazuo Koike from his own manga. It comes to us from the first installment – Kenji Misumi‘s Sword of Vengeance (1972) – and sets the tone for the near-perfect action series that follows. Check it out!!!
