what to watch when you're stranded

With The Muppets movie currently playing in theaters we thought we’d revisit one of our favorite films – Peter Jackson’s 1989 classic Meet the Feebles – the perfect blend of high and lowbrow humor. Though it’s already been reviewed in full on the Isle here, we just couldn’t resist revisiting this incredible scene, wherein the Feebles’ resident wastoid, Wynyard the Frog (voiced by Brian Sergent) flashes back to Vietnam. As if the Deer Hunter homage weren’t enough, this scene is peppered with so many little jokes (such as the evil beavers’ measured critique of Capitalism) and so much overt racism that it self-reflexively subverts a genre (the war-movie) within a genre (the variety hour), creating a meta-satire of show biz. Of course that’s just a highbrow way of saying we like it when puppets blow each others brainses out! Enjoy yourselves!
